Ceremony

We arrived at Captain Slate's Atlantis Dive Center to a scene of friendly chaos, as about 50 guest converged upon the shop and tried to sort out gear rentals and sign waivers. We departed to the ceremony site aboard the Coral Princess I and the Coral Princess VI, not at 7:45 a.m., as we had planned, but a little later, after 9:00! Better late than never! It was a beautiful day for an underwater wedding, not too much rain, nicely overcast, and some pretty decent waves, all of which made for an exciting boat ride. Upon reflection, a sunny day would have likely resulted in sunburns and dehydration, so it was probably for the better!
The ceremony took place at the wreck of the City of Washington, off of Key Largo, in about 25 feet of clear, warm water. In fact, it was much nicer on the bottom than it was on the surface! In addition to our SCUBA diving and snorkelling guests, there were also a few locals in attendance. Captain Slate's friend Lightning, a 4 foot barracuda, and a few very friendly nurse sharks came by to enjoy some ballyhoo. We'll be posting a more detailed account, along with some pictures a little later on! |
